Whiten natural teeth with a supervised home plan
Tandartspraktijk Mathenesse provides dentist-supervised take-home whitening, not in-office or laser whitening. The dentist first assesses whether whitening is suitable, explains possible sensitivity and discusses that fillings, crowns and facings do not whiten with natural teeth.
What you can expect
- Suitability assessment before whitening
- Teeth polished before the whitening course
- Custom take-home trays and individual instructions
- Realistic explanation of colour limitations
Age, eligibility and supervision
Whitening products containing or releasing more than 0.1% and up to 6% hydrogen peroxide must not be used by anyone under 18. For each treatment cycle, first use must be by a dentist or under their direct supervision, ensuring equivalent safety. Treatment may then continue at home following the instructions provided.
Have your teeth, gums and existing fillings assessed before whitening. Tooth decay or gum problems may require treatment first. Whitening is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Fillings, crowns and veneers do not whiten. Temporary tooth sensitivity or gum irritation can occur; stop if symptoms are severe or persistent and contact the practice.
Dentist-supervised take-home whitening
Tandartspraktijk Mathenesse provides take-home whitening with custom trays. The practice does not provide an in-office or laser-whitening protocol. The dentist first assesses whether whitening is suitable for your individual dental situation and explains the method and possible sensitivity.
Preparation, trays and individual instructions
Your teeth are polished before the whitening course. You then receive custom take-home trays, whitening gel and instructions about the amount and use. The gel quantity, wear time per session and total treatment duration depend on the product used and your teeth. Follow your dentist’s individual instructions, based on the supplied gel’s instructions for use. Do not extend the wear time yourself.
Natural teeth and existing restorations
Whitening changes the colour of natural teeth. Dental fillings, crowns and dental veneers do not whiten with them, so a colour difference may become visible. The dentist discusses existing restorations and realistic expectations before you decide whether to proceed. The final colour and how long a change remains visible differ between people.
Sensitivity and care during whitening
Temporary tooth sensitivity or gum irritation can occur. Use the gel and trays only according to your individual instructions. Stop if symptoms are severe or persistent and contact the practice. Strongly staining food, drinks and tobacco can contribute to renewed surface staining over time.
Reusing trays and obtaining refill gel
The custom trays may be reused if their fit remains appropriate and reuse is professionally advised. The practice supplies refill gel for reusable trays. Before another course, ask whether repeat whitening and the existing tray fit are still suitable for you. The first-use requirements also apply to each new treatment cycle.
